The dangers of labor

Industrial workers in Orange, Florida, know the dangers of their jobs. Massive equipment, large amounts of machine-powered pressure, repetitive motions, and heavy loads -- it all adds up to a heightened potential for workplace injuries. Many factors can contribute to the likelihood for injury, including an aging and disgruntled workforce. Despite these factors, some injuries occur without warning and without regard to statistics regarding age and job satisfaction. One such incident recently occurred and it took the life of a 16-year-old.

According to reports, the teenager was working for his family's business, a trucking company. He was helping his parents move a 2,000-pound pipe used for transferring water and fluids. The four-inch thick poly pipe was being loaded onto a flatbed truck so that it could be moved to another location. That was when the 16-year-old was struck and crushed by the pipe. Emergency services were contacted but by the time they arrived, the 16-year-old had already died.

The incident was ruled an industrial accident due to the nature of the equipment involved. Because of his age, it was assumed that he was legally working for his family's company at the time of the accident. Investigators are still looking into the situation and an autopsy and a toxicology report are expected. According to his obituary, the teen was planning to graduate in May and was a dependable employee to his parents.

Such incidents may be sad, but the fact of the matter is that they occur. Though this incident will not likely see the family of the loved one suing the employer for damages, other similar situations may. If you or a loved one have been injured on the job, an attorney can help you properly file the paperwork necessary to make a claim. Filing such a suit often requires strategizing to increase the chances of success, something that legal professionals are often well-versed in.
